The National Cricket League has been a backbone of Bangladesh’s first-class cricket since its launch in 1999-2000, shaping the country’s red-ball identity long before the rise of franchise tournaments. As Bangladesh transitioned into a full ICC member and built its Test structure, the NCL became an important stage for developing multi-day temperament, producing many players who went on to represent the national side. Over the decades, the league has moved through different phases: early success from Dhaka and Rajshahi, Khulna’s strong run through the mid-2010s, and a more balanced competitive landscape in recent seasons. The introduction of tiered formats in the mid-2010s sharpened promotion-relegation battles, while the later return to a unified table restored the traditional divisional rivalry that fans were familiar with. • 2025-2026 Season

  The 2025-2026 season continued with a single-table structure featuring eight divisional teams playing seven rounds of four-day cricket across Bangladesh’s established first-class venues. Rangpur Division finished at the top of the table, reclaiming the championship after a closely contested campaign in which they finished ahead of Sylhet Division. The season introduced Mymensingh Division in place of Dhaka Metro, while the use of the Kookaburra ball was limited to the opening two rounds before teams returned to the Duke ball for the remaining five rounds. Matches were staged across venues including Mirpur, Sylhet, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Bogura and Cox’s Bazar, giving the competition a familiar mix of regional conditions. The season also reinforced the NCL’s role as Bangladesh’s premier domestic first-class competition and an important platform for players developing their long-format game.

• 2024-2025 Season

  The 2024-2025 campaign saw Sylhet Division lift the trophy, securing their maiden NCL title after a consistent season. Sylhet confirmed the championship before the final round and finished eight points clear of second-placed Dhaka Metro, despite losing their final match to Rajshahi Division. The league operated in a unified table, with all eight teams facing each other once across seven rounds. Sylhet’s title added fresh variety to the competitive landscape after several recent championships had been shared among Dhaka, Rangpur and Khulna, while their campaign also highlighted the growing depth across Bangladesh’s divisional cricket structure. The season continued to serve as a key platform for players developing their long-format skills and pushing for recognition in Bangladesh’s Test setup.

• 2023-2024 Season

  In 2023-2024, Dhaka Division claimed the title after a campaign played under the NCL’s two-tier structure. The eight teams were divided between two tiers, with Dhaka Division competing in the top tier and finishing the season as champions. The format gave the competition a different rhythm from the unified table used in later seasons, with promotion and relegation adding another layer to the divisional contest. Dhaka’s triumph continued their long-standing record in the NCL and added another championship to one of the most successful teams in Bangladesh’s domestic first-class history.
