Women’s Super Series (SS20)

The Women's Super Series is a key part of Cricket Ireland's plan to make top-level female cricket players. The organization's past only goes back to 2015, but it has had a huge effect. Before the Super Series, there were fewer clear paths for women bowlers in Ireland. Most of them played in clubs. Club cricket is important, but to fill the gap between private play and the tough demands of international cricket, a higher-level local game was seen as necessary. The tournament's founders had a clear goal in mind: to bring together Ireland's best players and give them a chance to play in a more professional and competitive setting. This was very important for improving skills, encouraging strategic thought, and building the mental toughness needed to represent the country internationally.

The Dragons, the Scorchers, and the Typhoons were the three teams that were originally planned. These teams were not strictly based on geography. Instead, they were made up of players from different areas to create strong, competitive units. In the beginning, 50-over and T20 matches were played in the same tournament. This early framework, which is different from the separate events that happen now, set the stage for the Women's Super Series Ireland to grow in the future.

The series has had a lot of big sponsors over the years, starting with Toyota Ireland and moving on to Arachas and now Evoke. These relationships are very important because they provide the money needed to improve training sites, hire skilled coaches, and make game days better. More money has been put into the sport, which has led to more industry. For example, match fees at the Super Series level have been added to encourage players even more.

The world pandemic of 2020-2021 made a change that was only temporary but very important. Due to a lack of players, the game was briefly cut down to two teams and only played the 50-over version to keep the level of competition high. This showed that the leaders were determined to keep top cricket going even when things were tough.

In 2021, the 50-over and T20 games were officially split apart, which was a major change. This smart move took into account the different sets of skills and strategies needed for each style. The Super 20 Trophy (SS20) is now a specialized Twenty20 event, giving players a lot of chances to focus and do well in the shorter version of the game, which is becoming more popular in women's international cricket. When the third team returned in 2022, it made the battle even stronger and more varied.

Across its history, the Women's Super Series has featured three teams for most seasons, but the structure has continued to evolve. The most recent change came ahead of the 2026 season, when Cricket Ireland removed the Scorchers from the competition to concentrate talent and raise competitive standards. • Women’s Super Series (SS50)

  The Women’s Super Series (SS50) is the 50‑over competition, traditionally positioned in the early or middle part of the Irish summer, though recent seasons have shown more flexibility, with some editions moving into late summer to accommodate Ireland’s international schedule. It focuses on long-innings batting, sustained bowling spells, and the tactical pacing required for one-day cricket. SS50 remains a core development platform for Ireland’s national setup, giving players the extended match exposure needed to transition into ODI environments while maintaining the competitive standards expected at the top domestic level.

• Women’s Super Series (SS20)

  The Women’s Super Series (SS20) is the Twenty20 counterpart, built around fast scoring, inventive bowling, and sharp fielding. It is usually played in a compact window during the summer months, but its exact placement shifts depending on Ireland’s T20I fixtures and global qualification cycles. SS20 offers high-intensity, format-specific preparation, allowing players to refine the skills demanded in modern T20 cricket. Its round-robin structure ensures repeated, meaningful matchups, and games are hosted at leading club grounds across Ireland, keeping the tournament closely connected to local cricket communities while supporting the national program’s long-term development goals.
