In February 2017, the Bangladesh cricket team traveled to India to compete in a Test match. The Ganguly-Durjoy Trophy was given to the series in honor of Sourav Ganguly & Naimur Rahman, the respective captains of India & Bangladesh during the country's first-ever Test series in 2000. That was Bangladesh's first visit to India. The visit was originally slated to take place in August 2016, however, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated that the first week of February was more likely because of other agreements made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In August 2016, the Test's date was confirmed. The BCCI shifted the date back one day in January 2017. The Test game included the deployment of DRS.

India A and Bangladesh played in a two-day tour match before the Test match. Mushfiqur Rahim, the captain of Bangladesh, downplayed the tour's historic significance, saying "We want to perform in a way that India will keep inviting us. For me, this is just another Test game ". India scored 208 runs to win the Test match.

India broke numerous individual & team records during the Test match. Cheteshwar Pujara & Virat Kohli both established personal batting records in their opening innings. With a total of 1,605, Pujara surpassed the record for the most runs scored by a batsman in an Indian first-class season. Chandu Borde's 1,604 runs from the 1964-1965 season stood as the previous record. With 1,168 runs in Tests, Kohli broke the previous record for the most runs in a home season. The previous best was 1,105 runs scored by Virender Sehwag during the 2004-2005 season. Kohli also made history by becoming the first player to register a double-century in four straight Test matches.

The previous record, which was shared by Rahul Dravid and Don Bradman, was three straight series. 2019-2020 Series

Bangladesh toured India in 2019 and played a 2 test match series there. India won the first test by innings and 130 runs. That concluded the first game. India maintained their superiority against Bangladesh with a crushing victory. Also, they keep winning in the ICC World Test Championship. Nonetheless, they continued the series by traveling to Kolkata to play India's first-ever Day-Night Test match. Kohli tried to extend their success with the red ball to the pink ball as well. The second Test, played at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, was far more competitive. Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first, managing 227 runs on a turning surface, with Mominul Haque top-scoring. India replied with 314 runs, led by another strong performance from Pujara and Rishabh Pant, who counterattacked effectively against spin. In the second innings, Bangladesh fought back with 231 runs, setting India a tricky target of 145. The chase turned tense as India slumped to 74 for 7, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz running through the middle order. However, Ravichandran Ashwin (42 not out) and Shreyas Iyer (29 not out) guided India to victory by three wickets, sealing a 2-0 series win.

The Ganguly-Durjoy Trophy 2024-2025 brought the rivalry back to Indian soil after two years, with two Test matches played in September 2024. The first Test was held at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, a venue known for its spin-friendly surface and passionate crowd. India batted first and posted a huge total of 556 runs, anchored by Virat Kohli’s 178 and KL Rahul’s composed 112. Bangladesh struggled in response, managing only 247 runs in their first innings as Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 6 wickets. Asked to follow on, Bangladesh again fell short, bowled out for 267, with Axar Patel finishing with 4 for 58. India won the opening Test by an innings and 42 runs, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
